"At halftime, Coach really got to us."

- Stanford men's hoop guard Jeremy Green after the Cardinal were behind by 20 points to Wazzu at halftime, then mounted a second half comeback only to have it fall short by four points as the Cougars held on for the win.



The 2009-10 championship season for winter sports has begun with Arizona State standing alone atop the men's hoop standings while Stanford remains undefeated in women's hoop as conference play continues.

The updated 2008-09 Director's Cup standings were released and 15-time defending champ Stanford, once again, begins to establish their dominance for the run at their 16th consecutive title while all Pac-10 teams were in the Top 100.

Meanwhile, at NCAA HQ, USC's men's water polo was reprimanded for damage they inflicted on their hotel after the 2009 national championship.





Stanford

In women's hoop, the Cardinal swept the Washington schools and remained as the conference's only unbeaten team at 5-0 and 15-1 overall.



WSU

In men's hoop, Wazzu defeated Stanford but lost to California to move to 13-5 overall and 3-3 in conference play with a 93 RPI.

In women's hoop, the Cougars were swept last week, losing to California and Stanford to fall to 5-12 overall and 0-6 in conference play with a 149 RPI.

In football, Wazzu received a verbal commitment from running back Adonis Smith.



UCLA

In women's tennis, rain forced the cancellation of the Bruins' season opener against Cal Poly this week.



Washington

In football, redshirt junior quarterback Ronnie Fouch is transferring to Indiana State.



Arizona State

In football, the Sun Devils received a verbal commitment from quarterback Taylor Kelly.



USC

In women's hoop, the Women of Troy defeated rival UCLA to improve to 4-1 in conference play and 10-6 overall.



California

In football, the Bears named former Eastern Michigan head football coach Jeff Genyk as special teams coach.



Oregon

In men's hoop, the Ducks were swept by Arizona State and Arizona to fall to 10-7 overall and 2-3 in conference play.



Arizona

In football, the Wildcats received a verbal commitment from linebacker Kyle Benson.



Oregon State

In men's hoop, the Beavers defeated Arizona but lost to Arizona State to move to 8-9 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
