Jones checks out the Golden Flashes
When Kent State defeated Akron, 75-69, back on Jan. 23 at the M.A.C. Center in Kent, the Golden Flashes moved into first place of the Mid-American Conference East Division. They also impressed a handful of visiting prospects, including Garfield Heights, Ohio junior point guard, Carl Jones.
"It was a good game," said the 5-foot-11, 160-pound point guard. "It was close the whole time."
Jones, who got a good look at campus last year when he was a sophomore, said this time around he just watched the game and talked with the coaching staff.
"I like the coaches, they are real cool," he said. "I talk to them every month. They just check in on me. I talk to Jim Christian-he's really the only one I've talked to."
The visit to Kent State wasn't Jones' first trip. He's been to Michigan, Penn State and many of the MAC schools. He's also hoping to hit Rhode Island, Oregon State, George Mason, St. Joe's and several others.
"I talk a lot to the Michigan coaches and the St. Joe's and George Mason coaches recently," he said. I hear from a lot of others too like Cleveland State, Miami (Ohio) and most of the MAC.
"I have no idea where I want to go yet. I'm in no hurry. There are a couple of schools I like, but I'm not ready to make a decision."
Jones has led Garfield Heights to a perfect 16-0 mark so far this season. He averages nearly 28 points, 6 assists and 3 steals per game. Tuesday, the Bulldogs will be tested when they host Elyria.
"It should be a good game," he said. "They are pretty good competition."
Despite scoring nearly 30 points per game, Jones said he'd much rather dish the ball off.
"I really like to get my teammates involved," he said.
